Shropshire Gundog Society held their Novice and Open Working Tests at The Wood Farm, Codsall, by kind permission of Mr. Francis H Yates and Sponsor by Skinners Dog Food.

Mr Stewart North reported on the novice :-

The weather and attendance exceeded all expectations and it was a rare opportunity to see some curly coated and flat coated retrievers performing. The day started with the Novice Working Test and after the usual introductions, all 45 competitors were split into 3 groups,

Test1 with Judge Mr. David Showell, was a short blind retrieve, without shot, positioned just off a track in the woods.

Test 2, with Judge Mrs Dorothy Walls-Duffin, was a short single mark with shot in heavy bramble cover within the woods.

Test 3, with Judge Mr. Glynn Evans, which was a simple mark over water, with steep entry and exit points, no cover.

At this stage of the competition, the judges decided to make a cut and four dogs were called for a run off, after which the test finished and awards were made.

Lunch was taken and the Open test followed a similar format in the afternoon with 32 entries. Congratulations to all award winners, hosts, chief steward Warren Jones, helpers and judges, it was Chris Gray's first working test for Shropshire Gundogs, tremendous job well done.
