The ESS Open stake was held at the Pen Bedw shoot near Mold by kind invitation of Mr Brian Hatton. Judges Mr Ray Casey and Mr Martin Ashman had a full card of 16 dogs to sort out.
The day was cool and cloudy and the ground provided some testing bramble cover making the dogs show their hunting ability to flush out the birds.
The judges commended all the runners for their determined hunting and were pleased to award first to fourth prizes mentioning that any of the first four would have been worthy trial winners with only a hairs breadth between them all. Four dogs also received certificates of merit. Sponsors "Skinners" were thanked for the prize cards and vouchers for dog food.
Guns Choice was handled by Jeremy Organ and was in fourth place.
Winners were: 1st Ian English with "Helmsway Hope", a bitch owned and bred by the handler.
2nd R Crowther with "Piphill Predator" a bitch also owned and bred by the handler.
3rd J Edwards with " Edwardiana Brandy".
4th Jeremy Organ with "Rothievale Ling of Edegrove" who also took Guns Choice.
Certificates of merit went to Mrs M Emery "Coed Collen Walnut"
L Cooper with "Edwardiana Briar"
P Wilkes "Edwardiana Blitz" and Kenny Hiley " Kipperidge Sofie of Rheastmooar".
